Best Hiking Destination in Bali
Mount Abang is a great attraction for hikers, as it boasts a peak of 2152m above sea level, which ranks it third after Mount Agung and Mount Batur. The climb to Mount Abang offers spectacular views from the summit, with panoramic views of Mount Batur and Lake Batur that spoil the eyes so that it is included in Bangli Interesting Places to Visit. When climbing in the morning, you will be presented with the beauty of the rising sun that directly illuminates Mount Batur and reflects light into Lake Batur.
Mount Abang is also nominated for UNESCO status, as it is part of the caldera of Mount Batur. The mountain was formed from the remains of Mount Batur, which was once much larger. After a violent eruption, Mount Batur split into two parts, namely Mount Batur and Mount Abang.
Location and Route to Mount Abang
Mount Abang is located in Bangli Regency, precisely in Abangsongan Village, Kintamani District. For tourists who depart from the center of Denpasar City, the journey to Mount Abang takes about 2 hours with a distance of about 60 km. The route starts from Denpasar to Suter Village in the Kintamani area, then passes the Batur Geopark Museum. After that, you will turn right into the forest with a narrow road, and the journey will end at Munggu Temple as the final limit of the vehicle.
The ascent of Mount Abang is quite easy, as the track has been equipped with signboards. As a precaution, climbers can also bring a digital map or climbing map. Interestingly, each post on Mount Abang has a temple building that can be used as a place to rest and pray.
The journey to the first post, Penyawal Temple, takes about 1 hour. The track is sandy soil and uphill, surrounded by bushes and tall trees. Continue the journey to the second post, Andong Temple, which takes about 1 hour, passing through thick grass and dirt tracks with root ladders. Andong Temple is the last post before heading to the summit, and it can usually be used to pitch a tent.
