History of Medewi Beach
Medewi Beach is believed to have once been an area of ketket forest, or a forest with many thorny trees called “meduwi” in Balinese. These thorny trees are often called fire trees because of their abundance around the beach. Over time, this forest was cleared and turned into a residential area. The people who settled in this area later named the area as Desa Meduwi, which means thorny village.
The original inhabitants of Meduwi Village were mostly from Air Kuning Village in Negara Sub-district, followed by residents from Loloan Negara Sub-district and Mendoyo residents from Mendoyo Sub-district. Over time, the name of the village changed its pronunciation to Medewi Village, which later became the name of the beach that is known today.
